Thomas Heinzen, Board Chair for SPIRE Credit Union, has been named 2023 Outstanding Director of the Year by the Minnesota Credit Union Network (MNCUN). The award is given to one extraordinary credit union board member in Minnesota who best exemplifies dedication to the credit union movement.
Heinzen is an integral part of the SPIRE Board having steadfastly committed to his duties over the past 22 years. He joined SPIRE (then Twin City Co-ops Federal Credit Union) through their merger with Pioneer Plus Federal Credit Union (Pioneer Plus) in 2001. He served on the Pioneer Plus Board for the better part of six years having started on the Supervisory Committee. He accepted a one-year position on the SPIRE Board per the merger agreement and then moved to the SPIRE Supervisory Committee for eleven years. In 2012, he joined the Board of Directors and has served as the Chairman of the Board for the past nine years. Heinzen’s contributions have supported a period of record earnings and growth at SPIRE.
