Several charitable organizations benefit from the donations of SPIRE members & staff

In 2017, nearly 300 SPIRE staff reported over 3,600 hours of volunteer service in their communities.  These hours included supporting charitable organizations, places of worship, adopt-a-highway programs, neighborhood clean-up efforts, community sports organizations, providing financial literacy education, and representing their communities as official ambassadors.

Community Events

SPIRE ambassadors from all of our branches and offices also participate each year in parades, fundraisers,  and other events in the communities we serve.

Financial Education

SPIRE believes that it is our duty to provide financial education to both adults and youth.  We strive to empower people to become financially successful and thrive throughout life.

Desjardins Financial Education Awards Logo

SPIRE Credit Union was honored with the second place 2017 Adult Desjardins Financial Education Award sponsored by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).  The award recognizes leadership within the credit union movement in the area of adult financial literacy.

Also in 2017, SPIRE received both the Youth and Adult Desjardins Financial Education Awards sponsored by the Minnesota Credit Union Network (MnCUN). The awards recognize leadership in financial literacy within the credit union movement.

The Youth Desjardins Award was received for the partnership between SPIRE and the Elk River High School (ERHS) DECA program. 96 ERHS students were pre-tested on core financial concepts at an accuracy rate of 39%. At the end of the SPIRE Future Finance Academy, the same students post-tested at an accuracy rate of 90.93% - an increase of over 190%!  The DECA students went on to win third place in the State of Minnesota DECA competition.
For the third consecutive year, SPIRE also received the Adult Desjardins Award for its commitment to educating adults throughout Minnesota on financial topics. Throughout 2016, a record-setting 1,052 adults from varying needs and sectors of society were reached with over 110 classroom hours. This is a 64% increase over the preceding period and is higher than any preceding year of SPIRE offering financial education.

The SPIRE Give Back Team

Comprised of SPIRE employees, the SPIRE Give Back Team is charged with providing support to local communities on many levels.  We provide multiple ways throughout each year for SPIRE staff and members to give back to their communities.

Give Back Shirts

One of the initiatives of the Give Back Team is raising funds to support charitable organizations.  One simple way is SPIRE staff is given the option of purchasing a special T-shirt with the benefit of wearing jeans during the workday. On behalf of our staff, the Give Back Team donates thousands of dollars each year for charitable organizations including over $6,000 to the American Cancer Society during our Pinktober campaign each October.

Candy Bars for Kids

SPIRE staff and members enjoy chocolate!  World’s Finest chocolate bars are available for $1.00 in each of our branch locations and administrative offices.  Proceeds of the candy sales benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. On average, SPIRE donates over $10,000 each year from Candy Bars for Kids sales.

Toy Drive

Each year toy donations are accepted at SPIRE branch locations and administrative offices during the holiday season.  The toys are then  distributed locally by branch staff. SPIRE members and associates have donated thousands of unwrapped toys over the years for children and teens in need.
